What’s it like to be a MASS Trainer?

I am very happy to be back on board as a MASS Trainer, having been actively involved between 2007 and 2011 and I am excited at some of the new ideas going forward.

Those of you who have experienced MASS training will know that the courses are different from many other training courses.  MASS offers both external and in-house courses which are ‘off the shelf’ or in-house courses that are bespoke to your firm’s needs.

I love delivering all the different courses for MASS but personally, I find the in-house PI Diploma course the most enjoyable, as it is delivered in 6 modules over a period of 6-12 months and gives me an opportunity to get to know the firms and work closely with the delegates.

We know what it’s like to be a delegate as there are lots of testimonials and great comments made by delegates of MASS Courses but what’s it like to be a MASS Trainer?

Well, there are many words that spring to mind – here’s some of them:

The in-house groups often comprise of delegates of different skills and experience which in itself can be challenging as the PI Diploma covers everything from consideration of compliance issues right through to the practical challenges of getting a case to trial and there are often delegates who have a great deal of knowledge and experience in their field and could possibly teach me a thing or two!

The challenge for me with the more experienced fee earners is to get them to share their knowledge openly and to get them into the mind set of how to deal with exam questions.

Another challenge is in making the course interesting and enjoyable for all delegates, so that the experienced delegates don’t get bored and the inexperienced delegates don’t feel like the training is over their heads.

There is a lot of sharing of experiences and stories within the groups and I find this very interesting.  I am able to import information from MASS and other firms about issues, problems and of course success stories.  It is always interesting for me to see the amount of learning that takes place in the group in our sessions from a practical point of view, and to see the delegates learning from their colleague’s experiences.

After I have delivered an in-house course I often receive feedback from the other staff in the firms about the laughter coming from the training room!  This is not because they are not learning – it’s because they are enjoying learning!  My present Diploma group are a pleasure to be with and I always go home with a smile on my face, as I think they do too.

So much learning takes place when delegates share their knowledge and experience.  I am never disappointed at the level of enthusiasm and engagement from the delegates.  The interaction brings the case studies to life and as for competition between teams – there is never a dull moment!

Practical knowledge is priceless and a lot of the time I spend facilitating the learning in the groups.  There is always lots of group interaction taking place which always lifts the energy in the room and it is wonderful to see those personalities come out as people blossom.

It is satisfying for me to see the level of commitment which the delegates put in to their work, and in particular the amount of work which goes into the portfolios and the preparation for the examination.  Not to mention of course seeing the end result – making it all worthwhile.  The Diploma is a fantastic qualification to have and is very highly thought of in the industry.

I flourished in law because someone took a chance and invested in me, and now I enjoy the sense that I am contributing to the development of individuals.  The fact that firms continue to invest in properly training their staff is so important, it says much about the individuals chosen to attend the course and it says such a lot more about the ethos of the firms who make this commitment.

Constant facilitation wipes me out at the end of the day, but I wouldn’t have it any other way and that’s not to mention the sore feet!  Well that one is of my own doing – I must be brave and ditch the heels!
Training with MASS is very rewarding for me and I’m looking forward to training the new intakes of Diploma Students in the coming months.

So if you’re thinking of committing to the PI Diploma Course, don’t put it off.
The testimonials speak for themselves so don’t hesitate to contact Phil at MASS.

    What Our Clients Say

The problem when attending any personal injury legal training course is knowing whether you are actually going to learn anything new or find a different perspective, or whether you will just hear the same things that you have heard many, many times before.

The good news with MASS Training is that you know it is always going to be the former case. MASS’ courses are practical, informative and excellent value for money. My staff always come back feeling inspired and energised by having their existing knowledge and expertise confirmed, but also by picking up some new practical steps that they can immediately implement to make them more efficient in their day to day tasks.

I have absolutely no hesitation whatsoever in wholeheartedly recommending MASS Training to anyone looking for Personal Injury Training. It is the best training available.

MASS Training provide excellent content. The fact that they are in the main practising solicitors or legal executives means that not only do they fully understand their specialist subject matter, but they also know how to use this knowledge in the day to day running of their case load.

If they are not currently running a course covering the area of law that they are interested I know that if I suggest it to them they will be happy to prepare a course for us either in-house or generally within a matter of weeks.

We have in the past, and continue to, send our staff on the MASS Diploma Course, an excellent opportunity to develop essential skills and understanding for running RTA matters. If you are not yet ensuring your staff attend MASS Training courses, you are missing out on some of the best Personal Injury Training available.

Very informative. Easy to understand. Not a typical course which you can easily lose concentration

Thoroughly enjoyed it! It was both informative and practical, the fact it was quite hands on and interactive made the subject matter come to life and the topic elements sink in to some sort of structure! I feel like I actually understand some of the fundamental elements
